Volunteer Oportunities

Crisis Line Volunteer

Volunteers staff the crisis lines and provide information and referrals to women in crisis. Crisis line volunteers are responsible for determining if callers are appropriate for shelter. Duties also include taking messages for staff and residents and assisting in all shelter activities, such as supervising chores, organizing supplies, etc. There may be down time when the phones are not busy. Shelters operate on a 24/7 schedule. Shifts last from 3-4 hours. 8 hours of crisis line training is required for all crisis line volunteers. Must be at least 21 years of age or older for Crisis Lines.


Evening Childcare Group Volunteer

Volunteers are needed to assist in providing supervision for children during adult support group sessions. Volunteers will participate in activities with the children as well as utilize the Second Step Violence Curriculum. Ages of the children vary. Groups are held at the TCWC shelter on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM-8:00 PM and at the AVA shelter on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:00 PM. Two hours of children's program training is required for Childcare Group Volunteers. Must be at least 21 years of age or older to volunteer.


Noon-time Receptionist

Volunteers answer phone calls at the Administration Office and answer questions or refer the caller to the appropriate person. Hours for this position are from 11:30 AM -1:00 PM, Monday thru Friday. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.


Receptionist/Office Assistant

Volunteers answer phone calls at the Administration Office and answer questions or refer the caller to the appropriate person. Volunteers also help staff with filing, entering data, and other tasks as needed. Administration office hours are Monday thru Friday 9:00 AM-5:00 PM. Must be at least 18 years of age or older to volunteer.


Receptionist/Office Assistant at the Angel Children's Center

Volunteers answer phone calls at the Angel Children's Center and answer questions or refer the caller to the appropriate person. Volunteers also help staff with filing, entering data, and other tasks as needed. Administration office hours are Monday thru Friday 4:00 PM-6:00 PM. Must be at least 18 years of age or older to volunteer.

 

 


Maintenance Support Assistant

Volunteers with prior experience assist in maintenance projects. This includes fixing plumbing and electrical problems, as well as appliance equipment repair, landscaping, and other projects as needed. Shift hours vary. Hours for this position are Monday thru Thursday from 8:00 AM-3:00 PM. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old and have prior experience in maintenance and repair.


Community Relations

Volunteers attend community fairs to staff booths and describe services available to women and children. The purpose of TCWC's involvement in community fairs is to educate individuals about the dynamics of domestic violence, recruit volunteers and raise awareness about TCWC and domestic violence. After gaining experience at the centers, you may receive training to assist in domestic violence community awareness and education presentations. Must be at least 18 years of age or older to volunteer.


Other

Pick up and delivery of furniture, household goods, aluminum cans, etc.

Maintain landscaping at shelter. Perform seasonal yard work.
